Overview
As dissatisfaction with the Western rules-based system grows, the world is shifting towards a more complex global power structure. Africa has a limited role in shaping these orientations. To change that, the continent must improve governance, economic and political integration, and sustained economic growth.
This seminar will present global trends and their potential impact on Africa in each of the four scenarios developed by the Institute for Security Studies’ African Futures programme. As the world moves towards a multipolar power configuration, a supportive global environment is vital for Africa. This seminar will identify key factors that can propel or hinder Africa's path forward.
This seminar is co-hosted by the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) and AUDA-NEPAD. It is the first of four events in the Erudite series on Forecasting African futures: empowering African Union (AU) member states.
Moderator: Abdel-Nasser Daoud Kinefour, Senior Programme Officer: Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, AUDA-NEPAD
Presenter: Dr Jakkie Cilliers, Head, African Futures & Innovation, ISS
Panelists:
- Koffi Kouakou, Senior Research Fellow, Centre for Africa China Studies, University of Johannesburg
